Pagan Creations: Goddess Symbols: Circle

image

The Circle is the quintessential Goddess symbol.

The Moon, the Earth, a lactating breast, a pregnant belly are all Circles. Life is a circle. Eggs and many seeds are, roughly, circular. The stars and the seasons and the Sun all travel in circles around the Earth - at least visibly. Chakras are also circular.

The Circle represents protected space, and sacred space. They also represent equal power-sharing … People who gather in Circles meet as equals, with no single person set apart or above the others.

微笑棋牌现金版下载Anything that contains a Circle reflects unmistakably an aspect of the Goddess.

KUNDALINI RISING: ROOT CHAKRA

image

微笑棋牌现金版下载The Root Chakra is the foundation of the physical body. It is the seat of inherited beliefs, self-preservation (fight or flight instincts), identification with the physical world and survival. A healthy root chakra helps you have a solid connection to family and community, enjoy financial security, readily take action and feel happy and alive. It governs the immune and skeletal systems.

微笑棋牌现金版下载When the root chakra is weak or unbalanced, you may have adrenal, colon and kidney problems and weakness in the legs and spine. You may also suffer from anxiety, greed, selfishness, lack of confidence and failure to follow through. Heal the root chakra by exercise, dance, being in nature and cooking and cleaning.

The Root Chakra is a particularly interesting and potent one when it comes to food, and very often problems associated with this chakra (lack of sense of place, ungroundedness, disconnection from the world around you, financial problems) can be effectively and quickly brought under control by changing your diet to root chakra-friendly foods. As this chakra pulses with a vivid red color, red foods are an ideal companion for it. These include red meats and other animal proteins, red fruits and berries (especially pomegranates and cranberries) and root vegetables such as beetroot and yam.

As this chakra is associated with the earth, and a sense of being grounded and at one with the earth we inhabit, foods which also have a symbiotic relationship with soil and earth are fantastic for cleansing and boosting this chakra’s potency. Possibly the finest example of these would be edible and medicinal mushrooms – a food which is not only packed with protein, but also comes from a food group which literally holds the soil together, nourishing it and sprouting from it at once.

The root chakra is symbolized by the red Maladhara mandala, fire and snakes and dragons and its element is earth.

DRUIDISM

Druidism, also called Druidry, is a religion that was taught by the Druids (a member of the priestly class of the Celts about 2000 years ago). Druidism is a nature based religion that has many elements in common with New Age and Wicca but with a focus on ancestry and nature. It has no official dogma or sacred Scripture and, therefore, can take many forms. Like the New Age movement, it can adapt to a large variety of spiritual beliefs. So, those who are pantheists, polytheists, monotheists, and animists can adopt Druidic philosophy. Monotheistic Druids would believe in a god or goddess. Polytheistic Druids would affirm gods and goddesses. Pantheistic and animistic Druids would deny a personal God and would instead affirm the presence of God, as a force, that would exist in all things.

Druidism practices a tolerance of many different philosophical and spiritual traditions and teaches that no one system of thought is truer than any other. Rather, it depends on the individual and the “path” that he or she has chosen. Within the Druid movement there are “Bards” who were the ones who kept the oral traditions alive. They had to learn stories and underwent intensive training for many years. There were the Ovates who were the healers and the Druids who were the philosophers and teachers.

The main elements of Druidic belief are …

  1. Sacredness of all life微笑棋牌现金版下载: A philosophy which deals with the sacredness and divinity of all life in which all life is equal in value. Therefore, humanity is on the same level of importance as plants and animals.

  2. The Otherworld: 微笑棋牌现金版下载A place of existence beyond our physical senses. It is a place we are supposed to go to when we die but can be visited with the help of meditation, altered states of consciousness, visualizations, chanting, hypnosis, and shamanic trances.

  3. Reincarnation: Ancient Druidic practices taught a type of reincarnation in which the soul went to “The Otherworld” between incarnations, which could be in human or animal forms. Most modern Druids微笑棋牌现金版下载 hold to this as well.

  4. Nature: It reconnects us with nature, our ancestors, and ourselves, by “working with plants, trees, animals, stones, and ancestral stories.”

  5. Healing微笑棋牌现金版下载: It brings healing using holistic means for both body and spirit.

  6. Journey: Life is a journey from one stage to another: birth, marriage, children, death, etc.

  7. Potential微笑棋牌现金版下载: Developing one’s potential for the development of our creative, psychic, intellectual, and intuitive abilities.

  8. Magic: 微笑棋牌现金版下载Where ideas are brought into manifestation and divination is used to predict the future.

Druids微笑棋牌现金版下载 do not practice human sacrifice, but they do celebrate eight festivals which are based upon the seasons. They celebrate summer and winter solstices which are the longest and shortest days of the year respectively. They celebrate the equinoxes in the fall and spring when the days and nights are equally long. The other festivals were based on tradition and related to farming such as sending the cattle out to pasture, beginning of the harvest, etc.

Druidism emphasizes the “spiritual nature of life.”

It most probably originated in Britain around 2000 years ago, but this is not certain since ancient records are few and far between. It has recently undergone a revival.

OCCULT SYMBOLS-ITALIAN HORN (ALSO KNOWN AS THE CORNO)

The cornuto, corno, or cornicello is an Italian amulet of ancient origin. Corno means “horn” and cornicello means “little horn” – these names refer to a long, gently twisted horn-shaped amulet worn in Italy to protect against the evil eye. Cornicelli are usually carved out of red coral or made of gold or silver. The type of horn they are intended to copy is not a curled-over sheep horn or goat horn but rather like the twisted horn of an African eland or something similar. Over the years they have become rather stylized and now look less like a natural animal horn than they once did. A regionally popular amulet, they are primarily found in Italy and in America among descendants of Italian immigrants.

微笑棋牌现金版下载These little horns (like the horns of all horned animals) are presumed to have once been sacred to the Old European moon goddess, before the rise of Christianity. Some modern evangelical Catholics disparage the continued use of cornicelli among Italian Catholics and refer to them as “Satan’s horns” or “Lucifer’s horns” but this is absolutely nonsense, as they were always seen as the horns of the moon goddess – and hence, in Catholic symbolism, would be related to the Virgin Mary, who is shown standing on a lunar crescent.

The Neapolitan custom of making cornuto charms from silver (formerly sacred to the moon goddess Luna) and blood coral (formerly sacred to the sea goddess Venus) hints at the cultural survival of a link between the horned animal head and ancient worship of a neolithic-era mother- or fertility-goddess whose consort was a male deity sometimes called the Horned God.

OCCULT SYMBOLS-HORNED HAND

The sign of the horns is a hand gesture with a variety of meanings and uses in various cultures. It is formed by extending the index and little fingers while holding the middle and ring fingers微笑棋牌现金版下载 down with the thumb.

Its earliest use can be seen in India, as a gesture very commonly used by Gautama Buddha as Karana Mudra which is synonymous with expulsion of demons and removal of obstacles like sickness or negative thoughts. The same usage can be seen in Italy and Mediterranean culture as well where, when confronted with unfortunate events, or simply when these events are mentioned, the sign of the horns may be given to ward off bad luck. It is also used traditionally to counter or ward off the “evil eye” (malocchio).

With fingers down, it is a common apotropaic gesture, by which people seek protection in unlucky situations (It is a more Mediterranean equivalent of knocking on wood). Thus, for example, the President of the Italian Republic, Giovanni Leone, shocked the country when, while in Naples during an outbreak of cholera, he shook the hands of patients with one hand while with the other behind his back he made the corna. This act was well documented by the journalists and photographers who were right behind him, a fact that had escaped President Leone’s mind in that moment. In Italy, one can also “touch iron” (tocca ferro) or touch one’s nose. Males in Italy and some other countries may grab their testicles when confronted by bad luck; however, this is considered more vulgar.

In Peru one says contra (against). In the Dominican Republic the expression is zafa, said against curses known as fukú. All of these gestures are meant to conjure supernatural protection.

The sign of the horns is used to represented the Horned God of Wicca in Neopaganism.

OCCULT SYMBOLS-HEXAGRAM

The hexagram, like the pentagram, was and is used in practices of the occult and ceremonial magic and is attributed to the 7 “old” planets outlined in astrology.

The six-pointed star is commonly used both as a talisman and for conjuring spirits and spiritual forces in divers forms occult magic. In the book The History and Practice of Magic, Vol. 2, the six-pointed star is called the talisman of Saturn and it is also referred to as the Seal of Solomon.

Traditionally, the Hexagram can be seen as the combination of the four elements. Fire is symbolized as an upwards pointing triangle, while Air (its elemental opposite) is also an upwards pointing triangle, but with a horizontal line through its center. Water is symbolized as a downwards pointing triangle, while Earth (its elemental opposite) is also a downwards pointing triangle, but with a horizontal line through its center. When you combine the symbols of Fire and Water, a hexagram (six-pointed star) is created. The same follows for when you combine the symbols of Air and Earth. When you combine both hexagrams微笑棋牌现金版下载, you get the double-hexagram. Thus, a combination of the elements is created.

In Rosicrucian and Hermetic Magic, the seven Traditional Planets correspond with the angles and the center of the Hexagram as follows, in the same patterns as they appear on the Sephiroth and on the The Tree of Life. Saturn, although formally attributed to the Sephira of Binah, within this frame work nonetheless occupies the position of Daath.

OCCULT SYMBOLS-FROG

Egyptian Mythology:

To the Egyptians, the frog was a symbol of life and fertility, since millions of them were born after the annual inundation of the Nile, which brought fertility to the otherwise barren lands. Consequently, in Egyptian mythology, there began to be a frog-goddess, who represented fertility, named Heget (also Heqet, Heket), meaning frog微笑棋牌现金版下载. Heget was usually depicted as a frog, or a woman with a frog’s head, or more rarely as a frog on the end of a phallus to explicitly indicate her association with fertility.

The Ogdoad are the eight deities worshiped in Hermopolis. They were arranged in four male-female pairs, with the males associated with frogs, and the females with snakes

Hapy, was a deification of the annual flood of the Nile River, in Egyptian mythology, which deposited rich silt on the banks, allowing the Egyptians to grow crops. In Lower Egypt, he was adorned with papyrus plants, and attended by frogs, present in the region, and symbols of it.

微笑棋牌现金版下载The Biblical plague of frogs sent to curse ancient Egypt, like the nature of the other plagues, was intended to show the sovereignty of the God of Moses over the gods of Egypt.

Ancient Greece and Rome:

The Greeks and Romans associated frogs with fertility and harmony, and with licentiousness in association with Aphrodite.

  • The combat between the Frogs and the Mice (Batrachomyomachia) was a mock epic, commonly attributed to Homer.

  • The Frogs Who Desired a King is a fable, attributed to Aesop. The Frogs prayed to Zeus asking for a King. Zeus set up a log to be their monarch. The Frogs protested they wanted a fierce and terrible king, not a mere figurehead. So Zeus sent them a Stork to be their king. The new king hunted and devoured his subjects (as many human kings also do).

  • The Frogs is a comic play by Aristophanes. The choir of frogs sings the famous line: “Brekekekex koax koax.”

Ancient China:

The frog represents the lunar yin微笑棋牌现金版下载, and the Frog spirit Ch'ing-Wa Sheng is associated with healing and good fortune in business, although a frog in a well is symbolic of a person lacking in understanding and vision.

Indochina:

To Vietnamese people, toad is the uncle of the Sky. According to a Vietnamese ancient story, whenever toads grind their teeth, it is going to rain.

South America:

The Moche people of ancient Peru worshiped animals and often depicted toads in their art.
